Native to Colombia; grows on mossy trees at altitudes between 600 and 3,000 meters.

Endemic to Colombia, where it was discovered relatively recently.
 
As its wide altitude range suggests, M. herradurae can tolerate a quite wide range of temperature ranges.

It is fast-growing, floriferous species for the beginner orchid enthusiasts.

The flowers emit a strong cinnamom scent.
